New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown struggled in his return to action Sunday, dropping a career-high three passes during a 26-19 victory over the New York Jets. Brown, who had missed four weeks due to a right high ankle sprain sustained in Week 1, saw 10 targets but managed only three receptions for 27 yards. The receiver also muffed an onside kick attempt late in the fourth quarter, which was eventually recovered by teammate Eli Raridon.
Quarterback Drake Maye completed 18-of-32 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns without an interception in the win. One of Brown's notable drops occurred on a deep pass from Maye in the second quarter, while another came on a third-and-5 slant route. Despite the performance, Brown played 52 of 67 offensive snaps and reported that he finished the game healthy.
Coach Mike Vrabel noted that while it was not Brown’s best effort after being sidelined, he remains confident in the receiver's ability to contribute for the remainder of the season. The Patriots faced additional personnel issues as fellow receiver Romeo Doubs exited the contest with a shoulder injury and did not return. New England is scheduled for a road game against the Chicago Bears this coming Thursday.
