The A's Vegas stadium construction reached a new milestone this week with the installation of a second steel truss arch for the 33,000-capacity venue.
Construction crews installed the second steel truss arch at the A’s Vegas stadium site this week, marking a significant structural milestone for the $2 billion project. Tyler Van Eeckhaut, project director for contractors Mortenson-McCarthy, confirmed the placement of the center truss, an event he stated initiates a heavy workload scheduled for the coming months. The 33,000-person capacity domed ballpark remains on track for completion ahead of the 2028 MLB season, according to A’s President Marc Badain following a Thursday meeting with the Las Vegas Stadium Authority.
Ticket sales for the new venue show high demand among local residents and premium buyers. Badain reported that 75% of ticket purchasers are from the Las Vegas area. In the Athletic Club, a dedicated space for premium season ticket holders, only six seats remain unsold. Additionally, approximately 50% of all club-level seating has already been purchased. The stadium's design is intended to mirror the aesthetic of the Sydney Opera House and will serve as a visual anchor on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip, visible to passengers arriving at Harry Reid Airport.
Financing and Plaza Development Details
Bally’s Corp. is moving forward with a $1.19 billion mixed-use project on the site, eliminating the need for the Athletics to build a temporary plaza. Nick Tomasino, Bally’s senior vice president for development and construction, noted the company is in the final stages of securing financing for Phase One. This development plan includes a hotel-casino, a 2,500-seat theater, and various restaurant, shopping, and entertainment spaces. Steve Hill, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, expressed confidence that the original plan for an elevated plaza will proceed as intended.
Ownership Stakes and Investment Groups
Recent financial activity includes the sale of a minority stake in the ballclub to an investment group featuring former Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Atlanta Falcons minority owner Rashaun Williams. The specific size of their stake was not disclosed. Furthermore, an investment group involving former major league pitcher Chan Ho Park has committed $70 million to the franchise. Of that total, $55 million is currently committed, with the remaining $15 million contingent upon approval from Major League Baseball. John Fisher maintains his position as the majority owner of the Athletics.
Relocation Timeline and Current Operations
The Athletics are currently in the second year of a three-season residency at a Triple-A stadium located in West Sacramento, California. This temporary arrangement follows the team's 57-season tenure in Oakland, California. The transition to the Las Vegas Strip represents the final phase of the franchise's relocation strategy. Project leaders emphasized that the local workforce has a decades-long history of delivering large-scale projects, ensuring the vision for the new skyline-altering trusses remains on the established timeline.
