Aaron Donald Rejoins Los Angeles Rams Ahead of Season Opener

After retiring in March 2024, 35-year-old defensive tackle Aaron Donald rejoined the Rams on August 30 and began full team drills on September 6.

Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald participated in 11-on-11 drills on September 6 for the first time since ending a two-year retirement. The 35-year-old officially rejoined the roster on August 30, initially taking part only in individual drills. On Monday, Donald opted for a cardio workout instead of practice but confirmed he expects to return to the field on Tuesday.

Donald told reporters he feels there has been "no drop off" in his movement despite being away from football since March 2024. While he acknowledged some rust during his first team sessions, he noted that he settled in quickly. Defensive coordinator Chris Shula stated on Monday that the team is taking a day-by-day approach to acclimate Donald to the current defensive scheme.

The Rams open the regular season against the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia. Donald declined to confirm his availability for the Week 1 matchup, though he noted he is working with the staff on a game plan. Head coach Sean McVay has not yet specified a timeline for Donald's return to game action.

Regardless of when he debuts, Donald is expected to see a reduced workload compared to his 2023 season, during which he played 81% of the team's defensive snaps. The veteran lineman stated that the current group of players removes the pressure for him to play 60 or 70 snaps per game.
