Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers backed the NFL's security decisions on Friday as the team arrived in Paris for Sunday's matchup at Stade de France.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers expressed confidence on Friday in the NFL's ability to manage security for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints at Stade de France. Speaking from a downtown hotel following the team’s overnight flight from Pittsburgh, Rodgers stated that the league would not proceed if conditions were unsafe. The matchup is scheduled for October 25 despite ongoing civil unrest and planned demonstrations across France this weekend.
Weather conditions disrupted Friday's preparations, as the Steelers canceled an 11 a.m. outdoor practice at Stade de France due to wind and light rain. The decision to call off the session was made 90 minutes before its scheduled start. Similarly, the New Orleans Saints, who are practicing at Stade Municipal Montbauron in Versailles, restricted media viewing of their Friday session because of elevated wind and rain. The Saints arrived in France directly from New York following a victory over the Giants last Sunday.
Security concerns have already impacted fan activities, leading to the cancellation of a Steelers fan event on Thursday. The U.S. State Department issued a security alert late Thursday, advising Americans in Paris to exercise caution during Saturday's planned protests. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed he has consulted with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and French authorities to ensure appropriate arrangements are in place for the international fixture.
