Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, and Jannik Sinner will compete against amateurs for a 1 million Australian dollar prize on January 13.

Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka, and Jannik Sinner have signed up to compete in the 1 Point Slam at Rod Laver Arena on Jan. 13. The knockout tournament features a 1 million Australian dollar prize (approximately $700,000) for the winner of a bracket that mixes professionals, amateur qualifiers, and wild cards. Every match in the event consists of a single point.

Organizers announced at the Australian Open launch on Thursday that qualifying rounds are currently taking place at local clubs, with two additional days of qualifying scheduled for the opening week of the Grand Slam. The main Australian Open tournament follows from Jan. 17-31. Tennis Australia’s new chief executive, Andrew Abdo, stated the event aims to connect the tournament to every tennis community in the country.

Last January, local amateur Jordan Smith secured the million-dollar prize by defeating Sinner during the bracket and winning the final on the third stroke. The deciding point occurred when Joanna Garland, the women's No. 117 from Taiwan, hit a two-handed backhand wide. Previous participants included celebrities like Jay Chou, who was eliminated by an ace from Petar Jovic. Following a 2026 attendance of 1.3 million fans, organizers plan to expand seating and shade at Melbourne Park for the upcoming year.
