Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee that is expected to sideline him for up to two months.

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee and is expected to miss up to two months, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania. The news follows a season-high 41-minute performance on Monday, where Edwards recorded 47 points in a 127-125 overtime loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 23-year-old star began experiencing discomfort in the joint during a home opener victory against the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.

Prior to the surgery announcement, Edwards was producing career-best statistics through four games, averaging 33.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while shooting 48% from the field. The Timberwolves currently hold a 3-1 record and are scheduled to face the Golden State Warriors at home on Wednesday night. Coach Chris Finch had previously categorized the injury as a "daily situation" and expressed no long-term concern before the procedure was determined necessary.

This medical development involves the same leg that was affected by runner's knee during the previous season. During the most recent playoffs, Edwards also dealt with a bone bruise and a hyperextended left knee, though he avoided ligament damage at that time. The upcoming two-month recovery timeline removes a player who was leading the team's offensive efforts during their winning start to the season.
