Anthony Volpe Records Career-High 5 RBIs in Return to Yankees

Anthony Volpe hit a grand slam and drove in five runs during his first game back from Triple-A as the Yankees beat the Rockies 10-3.

Anthony Volpe drove in a career-high five runs and hit a seventh-inning grand slam to lead the New York Yankees to a 10-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Thursday. Playing before a crowd of 40,706 at Yankee Stadium, Volpe finished 3-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored. The grand slam, his second home run of the season, followed a grand slam by teammate George Lombard Jr. on Wednesday, marking the first time in franchise history that players aged 25 or younger hit slams in consecutive games.

Recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre earlier that day, Volpe made his first major league start at second base to replace Jazz Chisholm Jr., who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right thumb. Volpe, batting ninth, delivered an RBI single in the second inning and stole third base. He added an infield single in the sixth before lining his 355-foot home run over the right-field wall in the seventh to extend the lead to 10-2. During his first two plate appearances, he saw a combined 15 pitches, finishing the night with 21 pitches seen.

Prior to his promotion, Volpe spent 19 games at second base in the minors after being optioned on Aug. 4. In his final 28 games at Triple-A, he posted a 1.023 OPS with 10 home runs and 21 RBIs. He entered Thursday's contest with a .251 batting average and 24 RBIs through 57 games with the Yankees this season. The 25-year-old previously served as the team's starting shortstop, winning a Gold Glove at the position in 2023.
