Arsenal midfielder Max Dowman has been handed a three-game suspension after an independent panel dismissed the club's appeal against the red card he received during Tuesday's Carabao Cup penalty shootout loss to Fleetwood Town. The 16-year-old was sent off for reacting to a challenge from Harrison Neal. Manager Mikel Arteta expressed disappointment that the decision was not overturned, noting that the teenager had been subjected to reckless tackles prior to the incident.
Arteta defended his own stern reaction to Dowman as the player left the field, stating that the teenager must adapt to the physical demands of top-level football. The manager highlighted that Dowman, who holds Guinness World Records as the youngest player to win and score in the Premier League, was also sent off earlier this month while representing England’s under-19 side. Arteta emphasized the need to protect the player from physical harm, citing the risk of injuries when facing opponents weighing up to 100 kilos.
Ahead of a Premier League fixture against Liverpool, Arsenal's squad depth remains mixed. While Declan Rice, Riccardo Calafiori, and Christos Tzolis have returned to training, Bukayo Saka is expected to be out until after the November international break due to a quad injury. Noni Madueke is also considered a doubt for the upcoming match.
