Arsenal Hosts Coventry as Haaland Sweeps 15 Golden Boot Prediction Votes

Arsenal opens the 2026-27 season against Coventry City while Erling Haaland enters the year following a seven-touch performance in a 3-0 Community Shield loss.

Arsenal begins the 2026-27 Premier League season as defending champions, hosting newly promoted Coventry City on Friday. The Gunners enter the campaign following a 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield, a match where Erling Haaland was limited to just seven touches and two shots across 53 minutes of play. Despite that result, Haaland received all 15 votes from ESPN contributors to win the Golden Boot, even as City transitions to manager Enzo Maresca following the departure of Pep Guardiola.

Thirteen of 15 voters selected Arsenal to repeat as Premier League champions. The North London club replaced winger Leandro Trossard, who departed for Besiktas, by signing midfielder Bruno Guimarães and winger Christos Tzolis. Conversely, Manchester City enters a transition period after losing key personnel including Rodri to Barcelona, Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid, and John Stones to Inter Milan. Chelsea, who finished 10th last season, received 14 votes to finish in the top four under new manager Xabi Alonso, aided by signings Morgan Rogers, Marco Palestra, Geovany Quenda, and Estevao Willian.

Manchester United and Tottenham Top Four Outlook

Manchester United received 10 votes to secure a top-four finish, buoyed by Michael Carrick’s 71% win ratio and 2.3 points per game average across 17 matches last season. The Red Devils bolstered their midfield by signing Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos while retaining Marcus Rashford, though Casemiro, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia are no longer considered key squad members. Liverpool received five top-four votes as they adapt to a new manager following a season with no positive momentum.

Tottenham Hotspur is the primary choice for a surprise top-four finish, receiving six votes. Under head coach Roberto De Zerbi, Spurs have added Andy Robertson, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Sandro Tonali to a roster that saw James Maddison return from an ACL injury. This follows two consecutive 17th-place finishes for the club. Brighton & Hove Albion also received one vote for the top four, while Sunderland is predicted to regress after overperforming their expected goals and points metrics during their recent European qualification run.

Champions League and LaLiga Projections

Barcelona is the consensus pick to win the UEFA Champions League, receiving five votes to end Paris Saint-Germain’s quest for a three-peat. The Catalan club spent £65 million to sign Rodri from Manchester City and added Karim Adeyemi and Anthony Gordon to an attack featuring Lamine Yamal and World Cup best young player Pau Cubarsí. PSG, the two-time defending champions, rely on a core including Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembélé, and 32-year-old Marquinhos, with Matvey Safonov in goal.

In Spain, Real Madrid edged Barcelona 8-7 in title votes as José Mourinho returns to the Bernabéu 13 years after his initial departure. Madrid signed six players, including Yan Diomande, Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konaté, and Denzel Dumfries. They face a Barcelona side that has already entered the second matchweek of LaLiga, though the biggest clubs will not take the pitch until Saturday and Sunday.

Serie A and Bundesliga Favorites

Internazionale received 13 votes to repeat as Serie A champions. Their squad depth is reinforced by the return of Aleksandar Stankovic and the signings of Djed Spence and John Stones, with Josep Martínez expected to feature in goal. Rival clubs face managerial shifts, with Luciano Spalletti leading Juventus, Max Allegri at Napoli, and Ruben Amorim at Milan. Roma, led by Gian Piero Gasperini, added forward Santiago Castro as a potential threat to the title favorites.

Bayern Munich swept all 15 votes to win the Bundesliga, which begins play on August 28. In the Premier League sack race, Oliver Glasner of Nottingham Forest received four votes to be the first manager dismissed. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis employed four different coaches last season—Nuno Espírito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche, and Vitor Pereira—and faces an opening schedule against Leeds United, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Aston Villa. Other managers receiving votes for an early exit include Matthias Jaissle (3), Álvaro Arbeloa (3), and Gary O’Neil (3).
