Piero Hincapié and Martín Zubimendi will miss Tuesday's Champions League match against Lille due to ankle injuries sustained on Saturday.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that Piero Hincapié and Martín Zubimendi suffered ankle injuries during a post-match training session on Saturday. The session took place at Emirates Stadium shortly after the Gunners defeated Leeds United 2-1. Hincapié was seen being carried off the pitch by staff during the drills, which were intended for players who did not receive significant minutes during the match.
Both players are scheduled for scans on Monday to determine the severity of the damage, though Arteta noted Hincapié’s condition appears more serious. The duo will be unavailable for Tuesday's Champions League home fixture against Lille. Arteta defended the training program, noting that similar small-sided games were conducted approximately 37 times last season without incident.
In additional squad news, center-back William Saliba has returned to light training. However, the defender remains several weeks away from a competitive return, and the club has not established a specific date for his comeback. Arteta stated that the training sessions for players with lower workloads are necessary to maintain rhythm and impact for upcoming matches.
