Johan Manzambi opened the scoring for Unai Emery’s side on the stroke of half-time, capitalizing while Micky van de Ven was receiving treatment for a head injury. Nicolas Jackson doubled the lead in the 67th minute with his first goal for the club, followed by an Emi Buendia strike from distance in the 79th minute.

Tottenham ended a 485-minute scoring drought when Conor Gallagher diverted a Mohammed Kudus pass into the net in the 86th minute. Jan Paul van Hecke added a second for the hosts with a stoppage-time header from a set-piece, but Roberto De Zerbi’s side could not complete the comeback. Earlier in the match, a potential equalizer from Kudus was overturned by VAR after Andy Robertson was ruled offside in the buildup.

Spurs missed several early opportunities through Sávio, Archie Gray, and Omar Marmoush. The defeat extends Tottenham's winless streak to 48 games across all competitions when conceding the first goal. With two points and a -6 goal difference after five matches, this represents the club's worst start to a Premier League season, eclipsing the 2008-09 campaign.

Emi Buendia’s goal established him as the third visiting player to score in three consecutive league trips to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, joining Eberechi Eze and Bryan Mbeumo. Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki was named player of the match as the visitors moved to three domestic wins at the venue within the past year.
