Former St. Louis Cardinals assistant general manager Randy Flores has been named the 15th general manager in Houston Astros franchise history.

The Houston Astros hired Randy Flores as the 15th general manager in franchise history on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026. Flores, 51, joins the American League West champions from the St. Louis Cardinals, where he served as assistant general manager of amateur and pro acquisition. He replaces Dana Brown, who was dismissed on Aug. 24 before his contract expired at the end of the season.

Flores spent 10 seasons in the Cardinals' front office, beginning as director of scouting in 2015 before serving as an assistant GM from 2019 to 2026. During his playing career as a left-handed pitcher from 2002 to 2010, he posted an 11-5 record with a 4.61 ERA and four saves across 347 relief appearances and three starts. The Astros will formally introduce Flores at a news conference Monday morning at Daikin Park.

Houston finished the regular season with an 81-81 record, becoming the first MLB team in a non-shortened season to reach the playoffs without a winning record. Following a sweep by the Chicago White Sox in the AL Wild Card Series, the club opted not to renew the contract of manager Joe Espada. The search for a new manager remains ongoing this offseason after special adviser Jeff Bagwell and three assistant GMs handled front-office duties for the final two months of the 2026 campaign.
