CINCINNATI -- Defensive end Shemar Stewart returned to the practice field on Wednesday for the first time since being carted off with a hyperextended left knee during the Cincinnati Bengals' opening training camp session in July. The second-year player, a former first-round draft selection, participated in drills after fearing his season was over when his foot got caught in the ground while attempting to bend the corner during a team drill. Stewart reported feeling a "tiny pop" during the incident, which occurred just as he was beginning his second NFL campaign.

During his rookie season in 2025, Stewart was limited to eight games and five starts, recording a single sack. His first year was hampered by a contract dispute that delayed his participation in drills until the start of training camp, followed by two distinct injuries. A right ankle injury sustained in Week 2 sidelined him for four consecutive contests, while a subsequent knee issue resulted in an Injured Reserve stint spanning Weeks 11 through 15.
