After fanning Nick Loftin to start the fourth inning, Snell gave up consecutive singles to Bobby Witt Jr. and Jac Caglianone. Snell is one of three Dodgers pitchers to undergo surgery for loose bodies this year, joining closer Edwin Díaz, who had right elbow surgery in April, and Tarik Skubal, who underwent a left elbow procedure in May while with the Detroit Tigers.

To prepare for his activation, Snell completed four rehab assignments across two levels. He made three starts for Triple-A Oklahoma City and one for Single-A Ontario, posting a 3.09 ERA with no decisions. During that stretch, he recorded 19 strikeouts, averaging 14.7 strikeouts per inning. This marks the third consecutive season that the left-hander has returned from an injury during the second half of the schedule.

Roster Moves and Team Context

The NL West-leading Dodgers entered Tuesday's contest having lost eight of their previous 10 games. Manager Dave Roberts noted that Snell appeared to be "on a mission" before the game, emphasizing that the pitcher displays a specific swagger and rhythm when he is in command of his mechanics. Snell is currently in the second year of a five-year, $182 million contract. Last season, he posted a 2.35 ERA and contributed three postseason wins with a 3.18 ERA to help Los Angeles secure a second straight World Series title.

In conjunction with Snell's return, the Dodgers moved 38-year-old right-hander Blake Treinen to the 60-day injured list. Treinen has been out since June 20 with elbow inflammation, though Roberts stated the reliever has not suffered a setback. Additionally, the team optioned left-hander Charlie Barnes a day after his call-up. Barnes did not appear in the series opener against Kansas City and holds an 0-1 record with a 6.30 ERA in four appearances for the major league club this season.
