The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired 27-year-old right-hander Jose Soriano from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for a three-player package. Heading to Anaheim are top shortstop prospect Arjun Nimmala, outfielder Eddie Micheletti, and right-hander Angel Rivero. Soriano, who remains under club control through the 2028 season, arrives in Toronto following a four-year tenure with the Angels where he compiled a 26-27 record and a 3.72 ERA. Over 447 career innings, the pitcher has recorded 432 strikeouts.

Soriano began the current season with a dominant stretch in April, surrendering just one run across his initial 37⅔ innings of work. However, his performance shifted in the following months, resulting in a 4.64 ERA over his subsequent 16 starts. The right-hander was recently scratched from a scheduled start on Saturday, a move the Angels described as a "prudent approach" leading up to the trade deadline. This transaction follows Toronto's Sunday trade of right-hander Kevin Gausman to the Chicago Cubs for Triple-A outfielder Brett Bateman and Class-A infielder Ty Southisene.

During the 2025 campaign, Soriano established new career benchmarks by completing 31 starts and pitching 169 innings.
