Estranged wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has hired Drew Rosenhaus to represent him as he seeks to return to the NFL following a 2024 knee injury.
Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has hired agent Drew Rosenhaus to facilitate his return to the NFL, Rosenhaus told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday. Aiyuk, 28, has not appeared in a game since October 20, 2024, when he suffered a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus in his right knee during a matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. To play again, the former first-round pick must first apply for reinstatement with the league.
The San Francisco 49ers currently hold Aiyuk’s rights, though he is currently on the reserve/did not report list and does not count against their roster. In July 2025, the team voided approximately $27 million in guaranteed money from his contract after he failed to attend mandatory rehabilitation sessions and team check-ins. Following his absence from training camp and the team facility, San Francisco placed him on the reserve/left squad list in December.
General manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan have indicated that Aiyuk will not play for the 49ers again. When asked in September about a potential reunion, Shanahan replied, "no." If Aiyuk is reinstated, the team is expected to release him rather than pursue a trade. During the summer, Aiyuk utilized social media to request a release and expressed interest in joining the Washington Commanders to play with former Arizona State teammate Jayden Daniels.
Aiyuk earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2023, recording 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. The 49ers originally selected him with the No. 25 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. He currently receives no pay from the organization while remaining on the reserve list.
