LA Clippers forward Brandon Ingram participated in approximately 45 minutes of light court work Tuesday morning at the University of Hawai'i. Recovering from May surgery that repaired a partially torn Achilles and addressed a heel issue, Ingram engaged in half-speed shooting drills and defensive slides with assistant coach Jeff Van Gundy. While he tested his recovery with half-speed dribble moves, Ingram remained a spectator once the team transitioned into the contact portion of their first training camp practice.
Ingram joined the Clippers via a trade involving Kawhi Leonard despite an injury sustained while playing for the Toronto Raptors. The forward missed the final two games of a first-round playoff series against the Cleveland Cavaliers last April before undergoing the procedure. Interim president of basketball operations Trent Redden noted that the recovery timeline for a partial tear is projected to be roughly six months shorter than that of a full Achilles rupture.
Head coach Ty Lue confirmed that Ingram is ruled out for the start of the regular season, though a specific return date remains vague. The Clippers will continue practicing in Hawai'i throughout the week leading up to their preseason opener against the Golden State Warriors in Honolulu this Sunday. Lue indicated the team will integrate Ingram into floor sets and play designs as his conditioning improves.
