Defensive coordinator Brandon Staley rejected Troy Aikman's claim that he lacked answers during the New Orleans Saints' 45-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Brandon Staley addressed criticism from ESPN analyst Troy Aikman on Thursday following a 45-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. During the Monday Night Football broadcast, the Saints defense surrendered five rushing touchdowns and 205 rushing yards while playing without linebacker Kaden Elliss and edge rushers Carl Granderson and Anfernee Jennings. Aikman stated with 2:43 remaining in the third quarter that Staley "simply doesn't have any answers" and suggested the coordinator knew the team lacked the personnel to erase mistakes.

Staley labeled Aikman's remarks as untrue, specifically defending the unit's history against Falcons running back Bijan Robinson. While Robinson recorded a 59-yard run three plays into the game and finished with two touchdowns, Staley noted the Saints previously held him to 33 and 70 rushing yards in two meetings last season. The coordinator acknowledged that the game "got away" from New Orleans following a fourth-down penalty that led to Robinson's second score, stating the defense failed to regain its rhythm afterward.

Regarding the fifth rushing touchdown allowed, Aikman criticized the team's effort, alleging players were standing around and missing tackles. Staley countered that while the defense struggled with assignment and technique issues, the physical effort remained present. The Saints, now 1-3, are scheduled to host the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday.
