Brewers Place Grant Anderson on IL, Recall Brandon Sproat from Triple-A

Milwaukee placed Grant Anderson on the 15-day injured list Monday after the right-hander threw a season-high 44 pitches against Cincinnati.

The Milwaukee Brewers placed right-handed reliever Grant Anderson on the 15-day injured list Monday due to right biceps inflammation. To fill the roster spot, the club recalled 25-year-old right-hander Brandon Sproat from Triple-A Nashville. The move follows a Sunday appearance where Anderson threw a season-high 44 pitches and matched a season high with 2 2/3 innings of work during a 12-8 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.

Manager Pat Murphy noted that while Anderson felt the effects of the extended outing, there was no structural damage or immediate alarm regarding the injury. Anderson, 29, has posted a 3-3 record with a 3.36 ERA across 52 appearances this season. The Brewers required a fresh arm after no starting pitcher worked more than four innings during their weekend series against the Reds, a stretch in which the team lost two out of three games.

Sproat returns to the majors after previously going 3-7 with a 5.27 ERA for Milwaukee earlier this year. During his recent stint with Nashville, he went 0-1 with a 4.00 ERA while transitioning into shorter relief appearances. Murphy indicated the minor league assignment was intended to acclimate Sproat to a bullpen role to provide necessary length for the MLB-leading club.
