The finale, which features a combined $50 million purse, is slated to take place at The Cardinal at Saint John's the week following the August 20-23 event at The Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield, Indiana. Smith, the 2022 Open Championship winner, is currently under contract with the league through the 2027 season and stated he has received no official notification that the Michigan event will be canceled.

LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil is reportedly pursuing the $250-300 million injection after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced on April 30 that it would cease financing the league. This funding shift follows five seasons in which the PIF spent over $5 billion, including guaranteed contracts exceeding $100 million for marquee players such as Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Smith. While speculation persists regarding the status of the Michigan tournament, Smith noted that players have been instructed to prepare as though the schedule remains unchanged.

Tournament Logistics and Venue Uncertainty

The upcoming schedule features a stop at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, where Smith is the defending champion. Following the Indiana event at The Club at Chatham Hills, the league intends to move to The Cardinal at Saint John's, a venue owned by the Pulte Family Charitable Foundation. Although a spokesperson for the foundation declined to comment on the event's status, Smith expressed a desire to return to the Detroit area, citing the high attendance and quality of the course during the previous year's competition.

League officials have not yet confirmed the finality of the season-ending championship. A source informed ESPN that an official announcement regarding the Michigan tournament would likely be withheld until the conclusion of the Bedminster event. Smith mentioned a scheduled player meeting for Tuesday afternoon, where he anticipated receiving further clarity on the league's operational plans and the status of the $50 million championship purse.

Contractual Status and Future Outlook

Addressing rumors of a potential return to the PGA Tour, Smith clarified that his current obligations keep him on the LIV circuit for several more years. He stated that he intends to fulfill his agreement through the end of next year before entering any renegotiations.
