Cardinals Expect Rookie RB Jeremiyah Love to Play in Season Opener

Coach Mike LaFleur expressed optimism that first-round pick Jeremiyah Love will be available for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Arizona Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur announced Monday that rookie running back Jeremiyah Love is expected to be available for Sunday’s season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. The third-overall pick out of Notre Dame has been sidelined for approximately four weeks after sustaining a high-ankle sprain during a preseason matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders on August 13.

Love participated in the team’s Monday walk-through, with LaFleur noting the running back is progressing and moving around well. The rookie did not practice or play for the remainder of the preseason following the injury and was observed in street clothes during the team's final open practice last week. Because the first official injury report is not due until Wednesday, the Cardinals have not yet issued a formal status designation for the player.

Arizona's current backfield depth consists of three players on the initial 53-man roster: Love, Tyler Allgeier, and Bam Knight. The team also added running back Evan Hull to the practice squad to provide additional coverage at the position.
