Manchester United travel to the Metropolitano to face Atlético Madrid on Tuesday following a 1-1 draw with 10-man Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick stated he "totally believes" his squad will reverse their current form ahead of Tuesday's Champions League fixture against Atlético Madrid at the Metropolitano. The club enters the matchday two contest having won only two of their first eight matches across all competitions this season. While United opened their European campaign with a 4-0 victory over Sabah, their domestic form has resulted in a 13th-place standing in the Premier League table after securing one win in six league games.
Recent results include consecutive draws against Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur, which followed defeats to Brighton and Manchester City. In Saturday's 1-1 draw with Tottenham at Old Trafford, United conceded a 92nd-minute equalizer despite their opponents playing the final stages of the match with 10 men. Carrick noted that the last three league goals conceded by the team were avoidable, describing the current results as a matter of "fine margins."
Carrick, who was appointed full-time after replacing Ruben Amorim in January 2025, described the current period as "challenging" and "stickier" than expected. Despite the recent slump, the manager dismissed the notion of a disaster, emphasizing that building a successful project requires overcoming difficult spells. He credited the squad's potential to move past this phase, citing his confidence in the players to win a high volume of upcoming games.
