Cavan Sullivan Records First Multi-Goal Game in Philadelphia Union’s 5-0 Win Over San Diego

Cavan Sullivan scored in the 45+1' and 62' minutes while providing an assist to secure a 5-0 Philadelphia Union victory on Sunday night.

Cavan Sullivan recorded his first career two-goal game in MLS and provided an assist to lead the Philadelphia Union (9-10-6) to a 5-0 victory over San Diego (8-11-6) on Sunday night. Sullivan opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time with a back-heel flick that went in off the post. He doubled the lead in the 62nd minute by driving a shot through the legs of goalkeeper Duran Ferree from a tight angle. The result snapped a four-game home winning streak for San Diego.

Philadelphia extended their unbeaten run to 10 matches, a stretch that includes eight victories since the World Cup break. Sullivan contributed to the third goal by chipping the ball over the defense to Frankie Westfield, who found Bruno Damiani at the penalty spot for a finish. The Union added a fourth goal via an Anibal Godoy own goal in the 87th minute, followed by Malik Jakupovic’s first career MLS goal in stoppage time. Goalkeeper Andre Blake made five saves in his 290th appearance to secure his seventh clean sheet of the season.

Sullivan has now tallied five goals and six assists across his last seven MLS appearances. His performance comes as U.S. men's national team manager Mauricio Pochettino prepares to announce his squad on Sept. 17 for four upcoming friendlies, including a match against Peru on Sept. 26. Following this result, Philadelphia travels to face Sporting Kansas City while San Diego visits Miami on Sunday.
