Cleveland Guardians rookie outfielder Chase DeLauter hit a two-run Chase DeLauter home run in the top of the 10th inning to secure a 6-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night at T-Mobile Park. Facing Mariners closer Andrés Muñoz (0-1), DeLauter connected on an elevated fastball and drove it over the left-field wall to break a 3-3 tie and provide a 6-3 lead. This blast marked his fourth career home run in just his first three major league games, making him only the second player in MLB history to achieve that specific feat, joining Trevor Story.
The 10th-inning heroics followed a dramatic ninth inning where Julio Rodriguez tied the game for Seattle. Rodriguez delivered a two-out, two-strike RBI single off Cleveland pitcher Cade Smith (1-0), who earned the win despite the blown save. In the bottom of the 10th, Luke Raley brought the Mariners within one run by hitting a two-run homer, his third consecutive game with a long ball. However, Connor Brogdon entered the game to strike out both Leo Rivas and Cole Young, preserving the lead and recording his first save of the season.
Historical Milestones for DeLauter and Ramírez
DeLauter’s power surge places him in elite company within the 126-year history of the Cleveland franchise. On Thursday, he became the fifth player in team history to homer in his first career regular-season at-bat. By homering in each of his first three games, he joined Kyle Lewis (2019) and Trevor Story (2016) as the only three players in major league history to accomplish that specific streak. Story remains the only player to extend that streak to four games.
Veteran third baseman Jose Ramirez also reached a significant milestone during the sixth inning. Ramirez hit an RBI double to give Cleveland its first run, marking his 400th career double. He joins Tris Speaker, who recorded 486, and Nap Lajoie, who finished with 424, as the only players to reach the 400-double plateau in a Cleveland uniform. Following the double by Ramirez, Kyle Manzardo drove in another run with a single to give the Guardians a 2-0 lead at that point in the contest.
Pitching Lines and Early Game Action
Mariners starter Bryan Woo delivered a dominant performance despite receiving a no-decision. Woo threw five scoreless innings to start the game and finished his outing with six innings pitched, allowing two runs on nine strikeouts. His counterpart on the Cleveland side saw the bullpen take over late, with Smith and Brogdon handling the high-leverage situations in the ninth and tenth innings respectively.
Seattle took an early lead in the first inning when Cal Raleigh hit an RBI single. This hit was Raleigh’s first of the season; the 2025 AL MVP runner-up had previously struck out in each of his first eight at-bats to open the year. The game remained a 1-0 pitcher's duel until the sixth-inning rally by the Guardians.
Late Inning Volatility at T-Mobile Park
The contest shifted into extra innings after the 3-3 deadlock in the ninth. The Guardians' offense generated three runs in the top of the 10th, initiated by the Chase DeLauter home run that cleared the bases after a runner was placed on second. While the Mariners responded with Raley's two-run shot to make it 6-5, they could not find the final run needed to extend the game further. Brogdon’s ability to retire Rivas and Young via the strikeout ended the threat and finalized the one-run margin for the visiting club. Cleveland's victory was fueled by 10th-inning power and historic individual achievements from both their rookie sensation and their veteran leader.
