Colorado Rockies Hit Historical Low With Fourth Consecutive 100-Loss Season

The Colorado Rockies reached 100 losses for the fourth straight year following a 7-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Coors Field.

The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Colorado Rockies 7-2 on Tuesday night at Coors Field, marking Colorado’s 100th loss of the season. Michael Soroka earned the win by pitching seven innings of two-hit baseball, while former Rockies All-Star Nolan Arenado recorded three hits for Arizona. The defeat occurred before an announced crowd of 19,324 fans and approximately 800 dogs during the team's Bark at the Park event.

With this result, Colorado became the fifth franchise in Major League Baseball history to record at least 100 losses in four consecutive seasons. They are the first club to reach this mark since the New York Mets did so from 1962 through 1965. Since the start of the 2023 season, the Rockies have posted a 220-423 record, which is 23 games worse than the Chicago White Sox during the same period.

Colorado entered the contest with a major league-high 5.57 team ERA, a category they have led every year since 2022. The team has struggled significantly since mid-August; after a 13-7 win over the Giants on Aug. 16 brought their record to 50-74, the Rockies have gone 7-26 over their last 33 games, including a 2-13 stretch in their most recent 15 outings.

Despite the loss, catcher Hunter Goodman remains one home run away from becoming the first Rockies player to hit 40 in a season since 2019. Rookie first baseman TJ Rumfield also entered the game with a .300 batting average, ranking fifth in the National League. The Rockies finished the season with a combined 5-21 record against divisional rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.
