Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels was tackled for no gain with eight seconds remaining in overtime, preventing a potential 42-yard game-winning field goal.

The Washington Commanders and New York Giants played to a 27-27 tie on Sunday after Washington failed to stop the clock for a potential game-winning field goal. With eight seconds remaining in overtime and no timeouts, quarterback Jayden Daniels was tackled for no gain at the Giants' 24-yard line. The offense was unable to spike the ball in time to allow kicker Drew Stevens to attempt a 42-yard field goal.

Washington held a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter before the Giants rallied to tie the game. In overtime, the Commanders regained possession after forcing a fumble by Giants running back Cam Skattebo at their own 24-yard line. During the final drive, Daniels—returning from a dislocated left elbow suffered in Week 2—completed three passes for 35 yards and rushed for 16 yards.

Head coach Dan Quinn noted the final play was designed as an outside throw to tight end Ben Sinnott, but stated he should have instructed Daniels to clock the ball instead of seeking more yardage. The sequence began with a two-yard run by Rachaad White to the 24-yard line with 50 seconds left. Washington did not snap the ball again until 12 seconds remained, at which point Daniels scrambled rather than throwing the ball away to stop the clock.

The result leaves Washington with a 1-3-1 record heading into a Week 6 Monday night matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. Giants coach John Harbaugh described the conclusion as unlike any game he had previously seen.
