Como 1907 defeated Manchester United 4-1 at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, led by a performance from rising star Nico Paz.
Como 1907 secured a 4-1 victory over Manchester United on Wednesday night at the 12,000-capacity Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. Under rainy and windy conditions in Lombardy, number 10 Nico Paz led the Italian side to the win during the club's first-ever UEFA Champions League campaign. This result follows a previous 4-1 league phase victory against RB Leipzig.
Managed by Cesc Fàbregas, Como qualified for the Champions League after finishing fourth in Serie A last season. The club returned to Italy's top flight in 2024 following a 21-year absence, having played in the amateur fourth tier as recently as the 2018-19 season. The current ownership, Djarum Group, took over the team in 2019 after the club had been declared bankrupt twice since 2003.
Off the pitch, the club has transitioned into a "sports tourism destination," leveraging its location near Lake Como. The region saw tourist numbers rise from 1.9 million in 2019 to 5.6 million last year. To capitalize on this growth, the club operates The Club On The Lake, a private members' facility in an 18th-century villa featuring a Michelin-starred restaurant and a €4,500 annual membership fee. Additionally, the team established the Como Cup to host matches during the peak tourism months of July and August.
