Blackhawks captain Connor Bedard is trending toward a return on Tuesday after recovering from left shoulder surgery performed in July.
Chicago Blackhawks captain Connor Bedard is likely to make his season debut Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins, according to ESPN. Coach Jeff Blashill stated on Monday that the center’s status is "trending toward" a return to the lineup, provided he feels good through Tuesday's morning skate. Bedard is expected to center the top line alongside Patrick Kane and Roman Kanstserov while also joining a power play unit that has converted just once in 14 opportunities this season.
The 2023 No. 1 overall pick underwent surgery on his left shoulder in July following an injury sustained during offseason training in Vancouver. While the team initially projected a four-month recovery timeline, Bedard is poised to return just over three months post-procedure. Chicago's medical team has cleared all hurdles for the 19-year-old, who became the second-youngest captain in franchise history and signed a five-year, $75 million extension shortly after his surgery.
Bedard’s return comes as the Blackhawks have won only one of their first six games. During the previous season, he led the roster with 75 points in 69 games, outscoring his teammates by a margin of at least 17 points. His presence is intended to bolster an offense that has struggled early in the current campaign.
