Quarterback Daniel Jones confirmed he is fully cleared for 11-on-11 drills following a right Achilles tear that ended his 2025 campaign.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones announced Monday that he has been fully cleared to participate in training camp following the right Achilles tear that ended his 2025 season in December. The 29-year-old signal-caller intends to join 11-on-11 full team drills this Wednesday when the franchise holds its first official practice. This return follows a highly productive but injury-marred 2025 campaign where Jones established career highs in passing yards per attempt (8.1), QBR (63.0), and completion percentage (68%).
Jones enters the new season under a significant financial commitment after receiving the franchise tag earlier this offseason. He subsequently signed a two-year contract worth $88 million, a deal that includes incentives pushing the total potential value to $100 million. The quarterback’s recovery is a pivotal development for an Indianapolis offense that was flirting with franchise records during the first half of the previous year. Before the Achilles injury, Jones also dealt with a hairline fibula fracture in his left leg, which occurred after the team jumped out to an 8-2 start.
Return to Full Team Drills
Speaking on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Monday, Jones stated that he can currently do everything on the field and feels he is in a really good spot. While he noted there is still a final bit of recovery work to complete before the Week 1 home opener against the Baltimore Ravens, he expects to be 100% within the next month. The quarterback emphasized that his plan involves being a full participant from the moment the team starts up practice sessions this week. Players officially report to camp on Monday to begin preparations for the upcoming schedule.
Alec Pierce Sidelined on PUP List
While the quarterback returns, the Colts will begin camp without their primary receiving threat. The team announced Monday that wide receiver Alec Pierce has been placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Pierce is currently recovering from surgery performed on his left ankle in March. This injury status follows a massive offseason for the receiver, who signed a four-year contract extension worth $114 million. Pierce previously indicated in June that his recovery timeline could extend deep into training camp and potentially past the preseason schedule.
Statistical Impact and 2025 Performance
Prior to the December Achilles tear, Jones was orchestrating one of the most efficient offenses in the league. His 8.1 yards per attempt and 68% completion rate represented the most effective stretch of his career. Despite the late-season collapse following his leg injuries, the Colts' early 8-2 record showcased the team's ceiling with Jones under center. The quarterback's focus now shifts to maintaining that statistical output while navigating the final stages of rehabilitation for his right leg. The organization's investment in both Jones and Pierce, totaling $202 million in combined contract value this offseason, underscores the expectations for the Indianapolis passing attack heading into the matchup with Baltimore.
