Devon Witherspoon and the Seattle Seahawks have finalized a four-year, $132 million extension, according to sources cited by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The contract establishes a new financial benchmark for the position, featuring over $101 million in guaranteed compensation. This agreement makes the 25-year-old the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history. The news broke on the same day Seattle is scheduled to begin its preseason schedule against the Dallas Cowboys.

Witherspoon’s new deal follows his instrumental role in Seattle's 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX. During that championship game, the cornerback recorded a sack against Drake Maye and delivered a hit on the Patriots quarterback that resulted in a pick-six by Uchenna Nwosu. That defensive performance capped a 2025 season in which the Seahawks allowed the fewest points in the league.

Record-Breaking Contract Details

The extension follows a series of significant financial moves by the Seattle front office. In March, the team made Jaxon Smith-Njigba the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, which briefly delayed the timeline for Witherspoon’s negotiations. Before this extension, the Seahawks had already exercised Witherspoon’s fifth-year option for 2027 at a value of approximately $21.2 million. For the 2026 season, he was previously scheduled to earn just under $5.1 million.

Negotiations were reportedly complicated by the market status of Christian Gonzalez. The New England Patriots star corner shares the same agent as Witherspoon and is also seeking a top-of-the-market extension. Despite the ongoing business discussions, Witherspoon remained a participant throughout Seattle's offseason programs and training camp. Coach Mike Macdonald highlighted the player's professionalism, noting he was impressed by the defender's ability to compartmentalize the business side of the sport.

Since being selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft—a selection acquired from the Denver Broncos in the Russell Wilson trade—Witherspoon has earned Pro Bowl honors on the initial ballot in each of his first three seasons. He is only the fourth player in Seahawks franchise history to achieve three Pro Bowl selections in his first three years. During the team's 50th anniversary season last year, the organization officially named him one of the 50 greatest players in franchise history.

Witherspoon addressed his contract status during the season premiere of "Hard Knocks" last week, stating he was "not worried" about the negotiations.
