Corbin Burnes threw 57 pitches in his first start since June 2025 as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-3 on Tuesday.

The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-3 in 11 innings on Tuesday night, marked by Corbin Burnes' first start after a 15-month recovery from Tommy John surgery. Burnes threw 57 pitches over three innings, recording two strikeouts while allowing two hits and two walks. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. provided the decisive hit in the 11th inning with an RBI triple that scored Ildemaro Vargas, who had reached third on a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Waldschmidt. Ketel Marte added an insurance run in the final frame with a sacrifice fly.

Ryan Walston earned his first career win and save by pitching two innings for Arizona. The game remained scoreless until the eighth inning when Geraldo Perdomo drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly. Tim Tawa hit his 10th home run of the season, a solo shot in the ninth, but Kansas City's John Rave forced extra innings with a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth. Both clubs traded runs in the 10th inning before Arizona pulled ahead for good.

Royals starter Michael Wacha delivered his fourth consecutive quality start, striking out four and allowing three hits and four walks across six innings. Anthony Gose was credited with the loss after the 11th-inning rally. The victory moved Walston to a 1-0 record, while Gose fell to 1-1 on the season.
