Djokovic Falls Out of Top 10 for First Time Since 2002; Rybakina Reaches No. 1

Novak Djokovic fell from No. 5 to No. 12 in the ATP rankings released Monday, marking the first time since October 2002 that neither he, Roger Federer, nor Rafael Nadal appear in the top 10. The 39-year-old’s descent followed a first-round U.S. Open defeat to Mariano Navone, his earliest Grand Slam exit since the 2006 Australian Open. Federer, who retired at 41 in 2022, and Nadal, who retired at 38 in 2024, previously held top 10 positions for 237 and 912 weeks respectively.

In the current men's standings, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and Carlos Alcaraz occupy the top three spots. Zverev secured the No. 2 position after winning the U.S. Open title against Ben Shelton, who rose five places to No. 4. Zverev also captured the French Open title this season, while Alcaraz won the Australian Open and Sinner took the Wimbledon crown.

On the women's side, Elena Rybakina ascended to No. 1 after defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the U.S. Open final, ending Sabalenka’s 99-week tenure at the top. Rybakina recorded 12 aces during the championship match in New York, securing her second Grand Slam title of the year following her victory at the Australian Open. The current rankings reflect a season where Alcaraz and Sinner failed to meet in any major finals due to wrist and knee injuries, respectively.
