Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Bryan Thomas Jr. were ejected for fighting during the opening kickoff on Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The two players scuffled during the play and continued the physical altercation after the whistle, requiring teammates and staff to pull them apart. Officials announced the disqualifications following a brief meeting on the field.
The altercation occurred during a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Jaguars rookie Josh Cameron. However, the score was nullified due to an illegal formation penalty against Philadelphia and a holding penalty against Jacksonville linebacker Branson Combs.
According to Michael DiRocco of ESPN, Trotter was slated to start at linebacker in place of Jihaad Campbell. The son of the former Pro Bowler entered the game coming off a career-high 15-tackle performance during Philadelphia's previous loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Thomas, an undrafted rookie defensive end, was participating in his fourth career NFL game at the time of the ejection.
