England captain Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka each scored twice as Croatia suffered their heaviest loss since becoming an independent nation in 1991.
England defeated Croatia 7-0 in a UEFA Nations League match in Rijeka on Saturday, marking the largest margin of defeat for the home side since 1991. Harry Kane opened the scoring in the eighth minute after controlling a Jude Bellingham pass. Bellingham added a second by poking in an Anthony Gordon cross, before Gordon headed home a Jarell Quansah delivery. Bukayo Saka made it 4-0 before halftime with a side-footed finish.
Following the break, Elliot Anderson assisted Kane’s second goal at the back post. Saka secured his brace in the 68th minute following another Kane contribution, and Morgan Rogers completed the scoring by converting a heel pass from Bellingham. The result follows a 4-1 loss to Spain on Tuesday, meaning Slaven Bilic’s side has conceded 12 goals across three matches.
Croatia captain Luka Modric, now playing for AC Milan, stated he felt "ashamed" for the first time in his 20-year international career. The 41-year-old midfielder described the performance as a squandering of the team's reputation. Bilic attributed the loss to a "collective blackout" rather than specific tactical causes. Croatia is scheduled to host Spain on Tuesday in their final match of the current international window.
