New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson declared on Tuesday that reaching the postseason is a "very realistic" goal for a franchise currently enduring a 15-year playoff drought. The Jets, who finished 3-14 last season, enter the 2026 campaign with a 6.5% chance to make the playoffs and a projected win total of six according to ESPN analytics. Wilson, who signed a four-year, $130 million extension in 2025, has experienced a 22-46 record during his four seasons in New York.

The team opens the regular season Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, a squad also coming off a 3-14 record and now coached by former Jets head coach Robert Saleh. New York's roster features several significant changes, including the acquisition of quarterback Geno Smith to replace Fields. The offense expects the return of running back Breece Hall, who recently signed a three-year, $43.5 million contract, after he missed three weeks with a strained groin.

General manager efforts to bolster the roster included selecting tight end Kenyon Sadiq and wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. in the first round of the draft. The defense will debut five new starters, headlined by former All-Pros Minkah Fitzpatrick and Demario Davis alongside David Bailey, the No. 2 overall pick. While head coach Aaron Glenn defined a successful season as "winning, hands down," Wilson remains the most vocal proponent of a breakthrough, noting the team is dying to get the season rolling.
