New York Giants linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who led the team with 50 tackles, is out for the year with a torn chest muscle.
New York Giants middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds will miss the remainder of the season due to a torn chest muscle, a source told ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. The 28-year-old sustained the injury during the final plays of a 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Through six games, Edmunds led the Giants with 50 tackles and was tied for the team lead with two sacks.
Edmunds, who signed a three-year, $36 million contract this past offseason, served as a defensive leader and wore the green dot to communicate calls on the field. While the veteran linebacker attempted to play through the ailment, the team determined this week that he could not manage the injury. The Giants defense is also currently without outside linebacker Chauncey Golston, who was placed on injured reserve earlier this month with a neck injury.
Micah McFadden is expected to take over the starting role and the green dot communication duties for Sunday’s game against the 2-4 Houston Texans. McFadden has 36 career starts and will join Arvell Reese in the linebacker rotation. Coach John Harbaugh stated on Friday that the team viewed McFadden as a starter since the summer and expressed confidence in his ability to fill the vacancy.
For the upcoming matchup, the 3-2-1 Giants expect cornerback Paulson Adebo to return from a knee injury. Additionally, starting offensive tackles Andrew Thomas and Jermaine Eluemunor are expected to be available despite groin and calf injuries, respectively. Both linemen were listed as questionable for the contest but, according to Harbaugh, have a good chance to play.
