Giants Place Rookie Bryce Eldridge on Concussion List Following Hotel Accident

Bryce Eldridge was placed on the seven-day concussion list Monday, retroactive to Sept. 18, after sustaining a head injury at the team hotel in Los Angeles.

The San Francisco Giants placed first baseman and designated hitter Bryce Eldridge on the seven-day concussion list Monday. The move is retroactive to Sept. 18, following a head injury the 21-year-old sustained during an accident at the team hotel in Los Angeles on Friday. While the designation allows for a potential return for the final three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, manager Tony Vitello stated he does not anticipate Eldridge playing again in 2026.

Eldridge concludes his rookie campaign with a .269 batting average, 17 home runs, and 57 RBIs across 386 at-bats. The 2023 first-round pick made his major league debut on May 4. Vitello highlighted the rookie's defensive progress at first base, a position Eldridge only began playing in 2024, as a significant development alongside his offensive production.

In corresponding roster moves, the Giants placed outfielder Jung Hoo Lee on the 10-day injured list due to a groin contusion. Lee finishes his current stint with a .276 average and 10 home runs. San Francisco also designated left-handed reliever Philip Abner for assignment to make room for new additions.

Infielder Marcelo Mayer was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and scheduled to make his Giants debut as the designated hitter against Minnesota on Monday night. Mayer joined the organization via a trade deadline deal that sent lefty Erik Miller to the Boston Red Sox. Additionally, the club selected outfielder Bo Davidson from Triple-A Sacramento. Davidson, a left-handed hitter who recorded 29 homers and 20 stolen bases across two minor league levels this year, was slotted into the starting lineup as the right fielder for Monday's game.
