Harriet Dart secured her first Tour-level title by defeating Austria's Lilli Tagger 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final in China.
British qualifier Harriet Dart defeated 18-year-old Lilli Tagger 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to win the Guangzhou Open, marking her first career WTA title. The 30-year-old from Hampstead, currently the British number five, secured the victory on November 1, 2026, after overcoming a set deficit in the final. Following a semifinal performance where she saved three match points against Sun Xinran, Dart sealed the championship in the third set by serving out the match to 15, ending the contest with an unreturned serve.
The match featured a volatile deciding set with five consecutive breaks of serve. Dart halted that streak by saving two break points to hold for a 5-3 lead. Although she saw two championship points vanish in the following game—one via a Tagger serve and another after netting a mid-court forehand—she successfully held her final service game to clinch the win.
Earlier in the match, Dart struggled with her opening service games, dropping serve immediately and facing another break point before getting on the scoreboard. While she briefly leveled the first set at 4-4, Tagger broke back to take the lead. Dart responded in the second set by converting a break point for a 5-3 advantage, eventually forcing the decider. This victory returns Dart to the top 100 of the WTA rankings.
