As the 2026-27 NHL season begins, the Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Colorado Avalanche have emerged as the primary betting favorites for the Stanley Cup. DraftKings reports a tie between the Hurricanes and Panthers at +650, while the Avalanche follow at +700. Conversely, Caesars Sportsbook lists Colorado as the standalone favorite at +600, and both FanDuel and BetMGM position Florida at the top with +650 odds.

The Florida Panthers saw their odds shorten from an 11-1 opening after acquiring Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators. The team, which won championships in 2024 and 2025, has generated a steady flow of betting handle despite their short price. Meanwhile, the reigning champion Hurricanes are listed as high as +800 at some books, as oddsmakers note the team historically attracts less public money than other contenders.

Colorado enters the season having attracted 14% of the total handle at DraftKings and the highest percentage of tickets at BetMGM at 9.4%. The Avalanche, who won the Presidents' Trophy last year, retained the majority of their core roster. Beyond the top three, the Washington Capitals moved from 50-1 to 17-1 odds, drawing 5% of the handle at DraftKings as Alex Ovechkin nears retirement.

Longer shots gaining traction include the Toronto Maple Leafs at 25-1, featuring 2026 top draft pick Gavin McKenna. The San Jose Sharks are currently 35-1, with star Macklin Celebrini listed as a +450 favorite to win the Hart Trophy. These second-tier teams continue to receive support from bettors despite missing the postseason the previous year.
