Jalen Duren has signed a five-year, $200 million deal with Detroit following a regular season where he earned All-NBA honors.
Jalen Duren and the Detroit Pistons have agreed to a five-year, $200 million contract extension following a monthslong negotiation. The deal, which starts at approximately $40 million per year, follows a postseason in which Duren averaged 10.2 points and 8.5 rebounds over 14 games. This marked a 9.3 point-per-game decrease from his 19.5 PPG regular-season average, the third-largest scoring drop for an All-Star in NBA history.
During the regular season, Duren became the third player in franchise history to earn All-NBA honors at age 22 or younger, joining Isiah Thomas and Andre Drummond. He helped maintain Detroit's position at the top of the Eastern Conference while Cade Cunningham was sidelined with a collapsed lung. Despite his restricted free agent status, Duren met with the Sacramento Kings and drew interest from the Hawks, Bucks, and Wizards before re-signing with Detroit.
The Pistons also secured Ausar Thompson on a $155 million deal, doubling their total of players on contracts worth at least $100 million. To bolster the roster around Cunningham and Duren, Detroit added John Collins, Isaiah Joe, and Taurean Prince. These moves follow an offseason where the team inquired about trades for Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Durant, and considered a pursuit of Austin Reaves before he remained with the Lakers on a max contract.
