Jared Young Hospitalized Following Sixth-Inning Collision With Teammate

Mets first baseman Jared Young was immobilized and carted off the field in the sixth inning on Thursday after pitcher Nolan McLean accidentally struck him in the head.

New York Mets first baseman Jared Young was taken to a hospital for examination after being carted off the field in the sixth inning of Thursday night's game against Philadelphia. The injury occurred when pitcher Nolan McLean accidentally struck Young in the head while both players converged on a slow grounder hit by Justin Crawford. The Phillies held a 1-0 lead at the time of the collision.

According to the Mets, Young has feeling in his extremities. During the play, McLean broke toward first base on contact while Young attempted to field the ball with his right hand. McLean resumed his sprint and tripped over the first baseman, striking Young's head and leaving him motionless face-first on the ground. Manager Andy Green and athletic trainers immediately attended to the 31-year-old before he was immobilized on a cart.

Young provided a thumbs-up to the crowd before exiting behind the left-center field wall. The infielder is currently in his first full major league season, batting .266 with nine home runs and 39 RBIs through 103 games. This incident follows a previous six-week absence earlier this season due to a left knee injury.
