New York Mets first baseman Jared Young will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a concussion during a collision with pitcher Nolan McLean on Thursday night. The injury occurred in the sixth inning against Philadelphia while Young attempted to field a slow roller by Justin Crawford with the Phillies leading 1-0. McLean, while running toward first base, struck Young in the head with his knee, causing the 31-year-old to fall face-first and remain motionless on the field.

Interim manager Andy Green reported that Young was discharged from the hospital overnight and is currently recovering at home with symptoms including a headache and memory loss. Despite these symptoms, Green stated that medical tests yielded positive results and the team remains optimistic about Young’s long-term playing future. Young concludes his first full major league season with a .266 batting average, nine home runs, and 39 RBIs across 103 games, a campaign previously interrupted by a six-week absence due to a left knee injury.

To fill the roster vacancy, the Mets plan to recall infielder Ronny Mauricio from Triple-A Syracuse. Green indicated that the team will utilize a rotation of Brett Baty, Mark Vientos, and Christopher Morel at first base for the duration of Young's absence.
