Jaxson Dart to Miss Remainder of Regular Season for Knee Surgery

Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart will undergo surgery on his left knee following a meniscus and MCL injury suffered against the Rams.

New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh announced Wednesday that quarterback Jaxson Dart will undergo surgery on his left knee, sidelining him for the remainder of the 2026 regular season. While Dart’s ACL remains intact, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that the second-year starter suffered damage to his meniscus, MCL, and PCL. The procedure carries an estimated recovery timeline of six months, and the team expects the 23-year-old to be ready for the 2027 season. Harbaugh did not rule out a potential return should the Giants qualify for the postseason.

The injury occurred during the opening possession of Monday’s 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. On the seventh snap of the game, Rams linebacker Byron Young hit Dart on his right side, forcing him into linebacker Josaiah Stewart, who undercut the quarterback’s legs. Dart was officially ruled out in the third quarter after initially attempting to walk to the locker room with a limp.

Jameis Winston will take over as the starter for the 1-1 Giants. Replacing Dart on Monday, Winston completed 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and threw one interception. The team also has Jake Haener available on the practice squad. Before the injury, Dart had recorded a strong start to the season, completing 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 1 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
