Jayden Daniels addressed the Washington Commanders offensive unit on Monday to apologize for a late-game sack during a 27-27 tie with the Giants.

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels addressed his teammates during a Monday offensive meeting to take responsibility for the final play of a 27-27 tie against the New York Giants. With 12 seconds remaining in overtime and the ball at the New York 24-yard line, Daniels took a snap with no timeouts remaining. Instead of throwing the ball away to set up a field goal attempt, the rookie scrambled and was sacked as time expired, leaving Washington with a 1-3-1 record.

Offensive coordinator David Blough called the final play after the previous down ended with 50 seconds on the clock, but personnel substitutions delayed the snap. Head coach Dan Quinn did not order a spike to stop the clock, and the team failed to run another play following the sack. Daniels stated on Thursday that he must be more aware of the game situation regardless of the sideline play-call, noting he failed to manage the game correctly.

Backup quarterback Marcus Mariota and right guard Sam Cosmi have supported Daniels during the week of preparation for the upcoming game against San Francisco. Quinn noted that the quarterback has remained resilient despite criticism from figures such as Richard Sherman, Mike Tomlin, and Micah Parsons. Daniels, who credited his father for teaching him a 24-hour rule for processing games, said he spent time reflecting on what he could have done better prior to the final snap.
