Jo Adell Records 6 RBIs and 455-Foot HR Before Knee Injury in 8-1 Win

Jo Adell set a career high with six RBIs and hit a 455-foot home run before leaving the Cleveland Guardians' 8-1 victory due to a bruised left knee.

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Jo Adell drove in six runs and hit a 455-foot home run before exiting Tuesday's 8-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Progressive Field. Adell left the contest prior to the eighth inning due to a bruised left knee, an injury sustained when he fouled a pitch off his kneecap during his first-inning plate appearance. Despite the impact, he remained in the game to finish the at-bat, hitting a three-run home run three pitches later to give Cleveland a 3-0 lead.

The Guardians (61-65) moved within one game of the Texas Rangers for the final American League wild-card spot with the win. Adell’s performance marked his eighth career three-hit game and his first since being acquired from the Los Angeles Angels at the Aug. 3 trade deadline. Before Tuesday, the outfielder was batting .167 (7-for-42) in a Cleveland uniform. Manager Stephen Vogt noted that Adell was receiving treatment post-game and was unavailable for comment as he continues to undergo evaluation.

Record-Breaking Power at Progressive Field

Adell’s first-inning blast off Giants starter Carson Whisenhunt traveled 455 feet, landing five rows from the top of the left-field bleachers. The home run came on a 2-2 count, the seventh pitch of the at-bat, and was clocked as the longest of Adell's seven-year career. It surpassed his previous personal best of 454 feet, set last year in Kansas City. The 455-foot shot is the longest home run hit at Progressive Field since Salvador Perez recorded a 457-foot homer in 2024, and the longest by a Cleveland player since Bradley Zimmer’s 465-foot hit against Texas in 2021.

Following the home run, Adell continued his offensive production with a two-out, two-run single in the second inning that traveled back up the middle. He added an RBI base hit in the fourth inning to reach six RBIs on the night. This feat made him the sixth player in Major League Baseball this season to record at least six RBIs within the first four innings of a game. He is the first Cleveland player to achieve this specific statistical mark since Jose Ramirez did so in 2019.

Mounting Injuries for the Guardians Roster

The Jo Adell injury adds to a growing list of health concerns for the Cleveland clubhouse. Outfielder Chase DeLauter was absent from Tuesday’s lineup due to mild left hamstring tightness, having played only two innings in Sunday’s 5-0 shutout loss to San Diego. Cleveland has struggled since the All-Star break, posting a 10-19 record while navigating multiple player absences. Manager Stephen Vogt stated the team is currently monitoring several position players due to various ailments.

Historical injury trends have plagued the team throughout the summer. On June 13, the Guardians lost three players in five innings during a game against Detroit. Jose Ramirez missed five weeks with a fractured left hamate bone, DeLauter was sidelined for two weeks with a bruised right rib cage, and Angel Martinez missed six weeks after fouling a ball off his left foot. Giants manager Tony Vitello acknowledged Adell’s impact on the game, stating that while other players contributed, Adell was the primary issue for the San Francisco pitching staff on Tuesday night.
