Liverpool’s defensive options remain limited as Giovanni Leoni continues his recovery from a long-term absence. Additionally, club captain Virgil van Dijk is scheduled to report for preseason training next week, but he will not travel to the United States. Iraola noted that the performance against Sunderland was affected by "heavy legs" and a lack of freshness due to the intensity of recent training sessions. The team is now scheduled to travel to New York to face Wrexham before heading to Chicago for a fixture against Leeds.

Reinforcements are expected to join the active squad soon in Chicago. Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Ryan Gravenberch have arrived in the city following their post-World Cup breaks. These three players are slated to rejoin team activities shortly as Liverpool continues its American tour. Iraola emphasized that while there are many tactical elements to correct following the first match, the primary focus remains on building a platform for the upcoming season while managing a depleted defensive unit.
