Portugal manager Jorge Jesus stated that Cristiano Ronaldo can return to the national team if he chooses, following the forward's exit from the squad in September.
Portugal manager Jorge Jesus announced during a press conference following a 2-1 home victory over Norway that the door remains open for Cristiano Ronaldo to resume his international career. The Al Nassr forward, who has 146 goals in 234 appearances, left the squad after being an unused substitute during a 2-1 away win against Norway on September 27. Portugal currently leads Nations League Group Four with 12 points from 12 after following that result with a 4-2 win in Denmark and Sunday's home success.
Jesus stated that the 41-year-old attacker will decide his own future regarding the next international call-up. This follows a public fallout where Ronaldo confirmed his departure from the training camp via Instagram after a conversation with federation president Pedro Proença. While Ronaldo vowed to eventually reveal the truth regarding the spat, Proença characterized the incident as a misunderstanding that requires internal resolution. The president noted that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner remains a symbol of the country and will be included in the squad if he is technically fit to play.
