José Mourinho claimed he would have left Real Madrid last summer if he were Vinícius Júnior, praising the forward's decision to sign a new contract through 2032.

José Mourinho stated in a Saturday news conference that he would have forced an exit from Real Madrid last summer if he were Vinícius Júnior, citing a lack of respect in certain stadiums. Despite being whistled by home fans at the Bernabéu during a recent dip in form, the Brazil international committed his future to the club in August by signing a contract extension until 2032. The manager highlighted the player's psychological strength to remain at the club despite having other professional options.

Vinícius is currently serving a four-game LaLiga suspension following a red card against Villarreal last Saturday. His recent struggles continued during a 4-3 Champions League comeback victory at Roma, where Mourinho substituted him in the 59th minute with Madrid trailing 3-1. The forward had lost possession leading to Roma's second goal while facing a right-sided attack featuring Matias Soulé, Wesley, and Gianluca Mancini. His replacement, Endrick, earned player of the match honors after recording one goal and one assist to secure the win.

Mourinho attributed the difficulties on the wing to Roma coach Gasperini's man-to-man pressing and tactical setup against Marc Cucurella and Vinícius. While the forward admitted to being unhappy with his early exit in midweek, Mourinho indicated that the player is expected to start the upcoming Wednesday fixture against RB Leipzig. The manager also addressed external pressures, declining to comment on LaLiga president Javier Tebas comparing Real Madrid TV to propaganda techniques, while defending his right to make selection decisions over public polls or artificial intelligence.
