Justin Jefferson suffered a left ankle sprain during the Vikings' 23-16 win over the Buccaneers but may return for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson has been diagnosed with an ankle sprain following an MRI on Monday, according to reporting from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Dan Graziano. The four-time Pro Bowler sustained the left ankle injury at the conclusion of a 10-yard screen pass with 11:07 remaining in the first quarter of Sunday's 23-16 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite the exit, sources indicate there is a chance Jefferson will be available for this Sunday's matchup against the Miami Dolphins.

Before leaving the game, Jefferson recorded a 22-yard reception across the middle. Following his departure, the Vikings' offense struggled, managing only seven first downs for the remainder of the contest. Quarterback Kyler Murray finished the game 15-of-29 for 168 yards, enduring three sacks and one interception. During one stretch after Jefferson's injury, Murray completed just two of 15 pass attempts.

Jordan Addison led the receiving corps in Jefferson's absence, catching five passes for 90 yards. This included a 41-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter, which stood as Minnesota's only offensive touchdown of the day. The win moved the Vikings to a 3-0 record for the season.

Coach Kevin O’Connell noted that Jefferson was close to returning during the game but was unable to do so. The receiver has a history of durability, having played every game in five of his six full seasons, with the only significant prior absence being a seven-game stretch due to a right hamstring tear in 2023.
