Third-year guard Bronny James was assigned to the Coachella Valley Lakers on Thursday after appearing in five games during Los Angeles' 7-2 start.

The Los Angeles Lakers assigned third-year guard Bronny James to their G League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Lakers, on Thursday. James has averaged 0.8 points and 2.4 minutes per game across five appearances for the NBA club during their 7-2 start to the season. The Lakers currently sit atop the Western Conference standings alongside the Houston Rockets (7-2) and Portland Trail Blazers (6-1).

James joins a rebranded affiliate that has relocated its home games from El Segundo to Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert. During 25 G League games over the previous two seasons with the South Bay Lakers, the 22-year-old averaged 18.4 points on 49.6% shooting from the field and 41.3% from 3-point range. His developmental statistics also include 4.4 assists and 4.0 rebounds per contest.

Lakers rookie Cameron Carr was also assigned to Coachella Valley on Thursday. The affiliate is led by new head coach Alex Cerda, who replaced Zack Guthrie after Guthrie moved to JJ Redick’s staff in Los Angeles. Coachella Valley is scheduled to begin its season on Friday with a home matchup against the Salt Lake City Stars.
